Discovering the Wonder Child – Reuniting with Your Authentic Identity
Detroit, Michigan – June 22 to June 26, 2023
In this 5-day workshop, we will spend time together discovering the beauty of the Wonder Child, a healthy and natural part of our energetic inner self that was created and existed perfectly in a time before our experience in this world harmed our innocent nature.
Over time, familial and cultural early learning or traumas can cause us to feel fear and shame and/or block and derail us from our deeper authentic identity. Join us as we uncover the treasure of the true self that lies beneath the false masks we wear as a protective, public overlay to shield us from fear and this deep developed inner barrier.
Using action re-enactments, participants will have the opportunity to address early wounding or neglect and shed inauthentic roles and communicate to others psychodramatically to correct injustices, speak truth, experience closure and reclaim power. Participants will also have an opportunity to explore roles of high value that were not developed in childhood such as assertiveness and spontaneity.
We will use tools of creative experiential work to encounter with the innocent, alive child who is buried within. We will explore in a safe environment who is the person we would have been or would we like to become.
We will also use emotional release bodywork to delve into unexpressed and unprocessed trauma and emotions that are frozen, built up or blocked, which if unhealed create obstacles to connection to ourselves, others and our highest self and purpose.
Methods utilized
In this psychodrama-based workshop, group members will be guided through various action/experiential exercises, along with meditation and journaling, allowing a co-creation of a safe space for deeper inner personal work and to tell our stories.
Psychodrama will be the predominant method we will be utilizing in this workshop. Psychodrama is the original group therapy, and also the original experiential bodywork therapy, integrating the mind, body and soul.
As with all psychodrama work, we will be following the progression of warm up to action, action, and sharing. These are the three fundamental parts of every psychodrama.
During the initial phase, group members will be warming up to the space we will be working in along with to themselves and to one another. Once an appropriate level of safety and group cohesion has been accomplished, we will move into action.
Group members will have the opportunity to explore all the different roles of psychodrama including that of witness, auxiliary, double and protagonist. No prior experience with psychodrama is necessary to participate.
These scientifically supported neurobiological methods for healing will be chosen as they facilitate group members gaining and strengthening new roles which when practiced, and by offering work with the whole self including the body, offer unique attunement and a grounded and authentic attachment to the self and others.
More information about psychodrama is available elsewhere on this website, and this workshop is open to all, from beginners who have never experienced psychodrama to those trained and certified as practitioners of psychodrama or with advanced American Board of Psychodrama Examiner certifications, such as PAT and TEP.
